A Mobile Medical Van is an Ambulance fitted with equipment for carrying
out Diagnostic, preventive and treatment-based services. Each of the
Mobile Medical Units aim to provide access to health care and equitable
distribution of health services. This is akin to a primary health centre
with the advantage of mobility and accessibility. The MMU will be manned
by professional staff consisting of a MBBS Doctor, EMT/nurse and a
driver.
The following minimum services will be delivered:
- Curative services
- Treatment of minor ailments, minor wounds and
first aid
- First aid and referral for animal / snake bite
cases
- Identification and referral of complicated
cases requiring facility based management
- Early detection of Malaria, Dengue, Typhoid
etc. and other locally endemic communicable diseases and
non-
communicable diseases such as hypertension, diabetes,
tobacco related illnesses, etc.
- First aid and treatment for common
ailments
- First Aid: Foreign body in eye/nose/ear,
Minor Injury etc. in acute emergency, activation of EMS
Provision and first aid as per the protocol until EMS
Provider takes over
- Treatment of all common ailments like Abdominal
pain, Vomiting, Diarrhea, Fever, Heat stroke, dehydration
etc.
- Health Screening and Diagnostic
Services
- Primary Diagnostics (Clinical & Laboratory) for
common ailments on an outdoor basis
- Measuring vital health parameters such as blood
pressure, Pulse & temperature etc.
- Dispensing the common primary medicines
- Vision check and color blindness test

Awareness
- Distribution of IEC ( Information, Education
and Communication) Material on health including personal
hygiene, proper nutrition, hazards of tobacco, diseases,
HIV/AIDS etc.
- Conducting awareness sessions
